Welcome to my research website! I will be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from Fall 2013. My research focuses on the intersection of water, food, and trade. This research is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing from hydrology, environmental science, and economics. To conduct this research, I apply a range of quantitative tools, such as modeling, network analysis, and econometrics.
My research is driven by exciting scientific research with implications for policy. This work is motivated by questions such as: How does trade link water and food systems at a global scale? How will climate and socio-economic shocks impact global food trade and its associated virtual water trade? Will trade help us adapt to climate change or exacerbate the negative consequences of a changing climate? What policy options will best improve water and food security?
