Amanda Bienz

I am a sixth year Computer Science PhD student at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My research is focused on Scientific Computing, and I am advised under Luke Olson. I am investigating methods for improving the scalability of parallel linear solvers by reducing costs associated with communication, through changes to both the algorithm and parallel implementation. I am looking at methods that systematically remove insignificant fill from coarse levels, reducing computation and communication requirements with little change to convergence. Furthermore, I am investigating methods of reducing inter-node communication in exchange for less costly intra-node communication, rerouting the path of messages to communicate with less cost. Lastly, I am exploring methods for improving performance models in an effort to add parameters for network contention and queue search times.
