"In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity" -- Albert Einstein

About Me

I am a Predoctoral candidate and Fellow in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, advised by Prof. Ravishankar K. Iyer and mentored by Prof. Zbigniew Kalbarczyk at the DEPEND group which is based in the Coordinated Science Laboratory. My broad research interests are in computing systems, data analytics and learning methods with a focus in healthcare and precision medicine initatives. This is a collaborative effort with the Mayo Clinic, NUH Singapore and IBM Systems as our industry partner. Previously, I have worked in building reliable and secure systems, and networks for cyber-physical infrastructures.

I am thankful for the mentoring, support and a true collaborative spirit from:

As a Fellow of CompGen and the Mayo-Illinois Alliance, I have developed an analyses framework called Analytics and Machine Learning for Omics and Clinical Data (ALMOND). ALMOND jointly analyses omics (genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics etc.), socio-demographic factors and longitduinal electronic health records data to generate actionable intelligence. This is a piece of knowledge with high confidence and accuracy which can be used to tailor diagnosis/therapeutic choices or inform candidates for laboratory experiments leading to discovery of novel biomarkers/disease biology. This framework uses probabilistic graphical models as its core analytical engine, with futher support from game theory, other machine learning methods (supervised, unsupervised and deep learning methods), and rank-order statistics.

Previously, I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Alexander Clemm (Summer 2010) and Dr. Rajeev Koodli (Summer 2012 and 2013, now at Google) as a summer research intern at Cisco Systems, Inc.

Prior to joining Univ. Illinois in Spring 2014, I obtained my MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University under the supervision of Prof. James Bain. As a research assistant, I collaborated with Prof. Patrick Tague and Prof. Bob Iannucci as a member of the Wireless Network and System Security Group. I was also a recipient of the Carnegie Institute of Technology Dean's Fellowship for my research assistantship.
